What is this MitMission Hop-In about?

  • A common cause and purpose of this year’s gathering is sustainable and participatory community building processes in small towns.
  • Exchange and collaboration between practitioners from the MitOst network and beyond.
MitMission is MitOst’s annual network gathering being the successor and new format of MitOst Festival. It brings engaged people and practitioners from civil society, arts, culture, social innovation, and public sector together around one thematic focus. For three days, we will create a safer, inclusive, and participatory space to enable new connections, knowledge transfer and exchange of good practices. We will discuss challenges and potentials in the field, as well as celebrate and support the co-creation of new project ideas. This year’s theme is “Small Towns, Bit Impact: Weaving Visions for Co-creative Growth”. Aligned with the thematic focus, the MitMission Hop-In takes place in Vanadzor, a small town in Armenia with an industrial past and challenging social-economic situation.

MitMission Hop-In Vanadzor is organized and hosted by EcoHub Foundation for Sustainable Development and Active Citizenship, a women-led organization based in Armenia which is dedicated to empowering civil society, especially youth in rural areas, with the knowledge, frameworks, and tools needed to contribute to Armenia's development. The mainstream theme of EcoHub’s activities is sustainability and placemaking. It also runs Boo Alternative House training center in the Vanadzor Canyon area.

Get to know Vanadzor

Vanadzor is the third-largest city in Armenia, with a population of 80.000 residents. It is situated in the northern part of Armenia, in the Lori Province, approximately 128 kilometers far from Yerevan, the capital city. Nestled in the picturesque Debed River Canyon, Vanadzor benefits from its location amid rolling hills and lush landscapes, contributing to its scenic beauty and favorable climate.
In the 20th century, during the Soviet period, Vanadzor was known as an industrial center, particularly in textiles, chemical products and machinery. Now its economy is developing around tourism, agriculture and light industry. Vanadzor is well known for its rock music, outdoor activities and sanatorium. To learn more about places to visit around Vanadzor visit https://visitdebedcanyon.com/ and https://travellori.am/
